Not all businesses are required to file a Certificate of Annual Registration (CAR).

Only restricted professional LLCs, limited liability partnerships, and limited liability limited partnerships that are active within the Department of State's records on December 31st of any given year must file a Certificate of Annual Registration. The Certificate of Annual Registration is due between January 1st and April 15th of the following year in which the business was active. Refer to the physical form instructions for more information about fees and penalties for not filing.

To file your Certificate of Annual Registration with the Department of State, you will use the Department of Stats's Business Filing Services (BFS). To do so, follow the steps below:

1. Click Continue to BFS below.
2. On the resulting screen, search your business name.
3. Click the appropriate result.
4. Click Request Access to receive a PIN (If you already have access to the business, skip to step 6.)
5. Obtain the PIN from your email and verify in BFS to obtain access to your business.
6. Click File Amendment to open a list of filing options
7. Click Certificate of Annual Registration, complete the required screens, and submit the filing and payment to the Department of State.
